Roatan Dive Trip 2023, Sept-Oct - page 4
In late September of 2023 I returned to the Reef House Resort in Roatan for the 11th time, and Grace came along for the 3rd time. My intention was to get in the usual 36-38 dives over 2 weeks. It was not to be.
After the first day and three dives, I had a case of the bends in my right shoulder. Non-specific pain that wouldn't go away for a few hours. In addition, the A/C was out in the room that day, and I ended up going into heatstroke. A night in an air-conditioned room solved all my symptoms, and a doctor visit the following day had me taking the rest of week 1 off. On week 2 I was limited to 2 dives a day. Consequently I only got 11 dives in total - but I did get to drive around the island a lot more. Pics from the land tourrs are mixed in.
I had hoped that coral bleaching was minimal this year as the water was very warm. My hopes there were dashed as the bleaching was the worst I'd ever seen. (It was still about as bad in December when I came back for another week.)
